Deploying a Seeker Grenade against a Leaper in ARC Raiders is generally a waste of resources and a clear sign of poor combat economy. While Seeker Grenades are exceptional at neutralizing fast, agile flying units, using them against a heavily armored, ground-based machine like the Leaper requires far too much inventory investment to be practical.
Damage Mechanics and the Math Behind the Encounter
A statistical breakdown reveals why this matchup fails on paper and in practice. The Seeker Grenade inflicts a base value of 50 explosive damage per unit and relies on a tight tracking radius to lock onto targets. Conversely, a standard Leaper boasts a substantial health pool of 1,100 HP, reinforced by heavy exterior plating.
Because of this damage-to-health disparity, it requires a staggering 22 perfectly landed Seeker Grenades to destroy a full-health Leaper from explosive damage alone. Even if a Raider targets the Leaper's primary weakpoints—such as the central glowing eye or its exposed mechanical leg joints—to bypass armor mitigation, it still takes an average of 10 to 12 Seeker Grenades to down a single machine. Given that inventory slots are tightly restricted, dedicating multiple inventory stacks solely to Seeker Grenades for one mid-tier encounter significantly hurts a Raider's overall extraction efficiency.
Target Acquisition and Distraction Factors
Beyond poor damage scaling, the Seeker Grenade's tracking logic presents a major tactical liability during active engagements. Leapers rarely patrol alone; they are frequently flanked by small drone squads consisting of Ticks, Wasps, or Hornets.
When a Seeker Grenade is thrown near a Leaper, its automated homing mechanism prioritized proximity over target tier. The grenade will frequently redirect its path to chase down a nearby 100-HP flying drone rather than hitting the 1,100-HP threat charging at your position. This erratic targeting means valuable ordnance is easily wasted on low-priority trash mobs, leaving you completely exposed to the Leaper's devastating 360-degree kinetic shockwave or high-velocity leap attacks.
Inventory Value and Economic Alternatives
To maximize your extraction success, keeping your combat loadout cost-effective is vital. Instead of burning your items in sub-optimal fights, you can check trading networks like U4N, where players track active market trends and find verified arc raiders ps5 blueprints for sale to optimize their crafting rotations out-of-raid. Saving your high-tech components to craft specialized gear yields much better survival rates.
For instance, Seeker Grenades should be strictly reserved for their intended counter-role: one-shotting elusive aerial threats like Snitches, Wasps, and Hornets. If you need to rely on thrown explosives to take down a Leaper, substitute your seekers with Blaze Grenades or Trailblazer Grenades.
Leapers are extremely vulnerable to elemental fire damage. Forcing a Leaper into a sustained fire pool from a Blaze Grenade continuously strips its heavy plating. This status effect allows you to quickly finish it off with just 1 or 2 well-placed shots from heavy ammo weapons like the Anvil or a maxed-out Ferro. Alternatively, luring a Leaper toward a narrow bunker doorway and sticking it with high-impact Trigger or Snap Grenades completely immobilizes the machine, ensuring a clean, resource-friendly kill without draining your utility belt.
